Training activities
National Institute of Public Health provides long and short term training courses as below:
A. Long term:  
2 batches of Master Degree Course on Public Health were completed and conducted in French language, NIOPH is planning to organize the bachelor course on Public Health in the near future in line with that we are in the process of preparing the curriculum.

B. Short term:
1. Health management
The National Institute of Public Health (NIOPH) in close collaboration with JICA organization as well as under the technical and financial supports from the JICA since 2003 has provided the short training course on health management for senior health managers at central, provincial and district levels nationwide.

The purpose of the training course is to provide a basic knowledge on health management in scientific way to health managers at different level in order to help them to understand and know how to develop the strategic planning such as vision, mission and goals for their own setting through the analysis of strength, weakness, opportunity and threat of their own institutions, to understand the concept for problem solving, strategic management in community and hospitals, to strengthen the capacity for situation analysis in community in order to get new approaches for problem solving, to know the methods of quality control and applied the methods for improving the quality of their own setting, and to improve their own health leadership.

The workshops/training courses that had been organized by NIOPH are:

Four TOT workshops were organized at National Institute of Public Health for senior health managers at central and provincial levels nationwide with the total number of 97 participants (19 females)

Three training courses on health management for senior health managers at central and provincial levels were organized at National Institute of Public Health for senior health managers nationwide with the total number of 92 participants (12 females)

Three training courses on health management for senior health managers at district level were organized as follow:

At NIOPH with 33 participants (4 females);

At Champassack province( the southern part) with 29 participants (5 females)

At Luangprabang province(the Northern part) with 27 participants (2 females)

At Xienkhouang province(for eight northern provinces) with 37 participants (4 females)

2. Health Research Methodology Training

Training on health research methodology is one of the NIOPH’s activities in order to contribute to build the research capacity of health staffs nationwide as well as to promote the conduction of health research in the country. Therefore, during the implementation of the each five year national health research master plan of NIOPH, the number of health care providers nationwide who had been trained on health
research methodology is as follow:

156 health care providers for the first five year national health research master plan (1992-1996) under the support of IDRC-CANADA and WHO

193 health care providers for the second five year national health research master plan (1997-2001) under the support of IDRC-CANADA and WHO

Beside that the NIOPH has contributed to lecture on health research methodology to medical students at Faculty of Medical Sciences, National University of Laos since 1997

Since 2001, the NIOPH in collaboration with the Calorinska Institute for the implementation of the National Drug Policy (NDP) has periodically organized training workshop on health research methodology for health staffs who assigned to participate for conducting health research projects supported by Calorinska Institute.

Establishing Asian link network between National Institute of Public Health (NIOPH) Ministry of Health of Lao PDR), Hanoi School of Public Health, Ministry of Health of  Vietnam, Université Libre of Bruxelles and Tropical Medicine Institute of Liverpool UK on Health System Research curriculum development for Laos-Vietnam under the support of EU

On the 4th October to 25th November 2005 the intensive course on Health System Research was held at the Hanoi School of Public Health, Vietnam in which the NIOPH’s lecturers had jointly lectured with other lecturers from Vietnam and Bruxelles on some subjects for the course. The subjects had been delivered are as below:
